Suspended ceilings offer various advantages and benefits.

Suspended ceilings are often used because they provide a clean finish to any indoor space. There are several advantages to suspended ceilings, so whatever your industry or building type, there are several reasons that you should consider suspended ceilings.

At Tapper Interiors, our fit-out contractors have installed suspended ceilings for many years. We only work with the highest quality materials to ensure our jobs are completed with a professional finish.

Top 10 Suspended Ceiling Advantages

There are several suspended ceiling advantages which may be relevant depending on the type of ceiling used. Here are some of the key reasons that suspended ceilings are selected:

  1. Acoustic Control – All of the suspended ceilings that we offer include some element of acoustic control. The sound-absorbing properties help to reduce noise levels within a space. This is particularly important in commercial settings, such as busy offices or loud classrooms, where noise control is essential. Different levels of sound absorption are available depending on your requirements, so contact us if you want to discuss your options.

  2. Aesthetics – Suspended ceilings are often used because they provide a polished and finished look. The tiles can conceal unsightly wires, pipes, and ductwork, creating a clean and professional appearance. Again, this is particularly useful in schools and offices. They are also often used in older buildings with higher ceilings to hide more modern features which have been added later—for example, electric installations and pipework.

  3. Temperature Insulation – Certain suspended ceiling tiles come with temperature-insulating properties. This means they contribute towards regulating temperature and improving energy efficiency. This can then contribute to a further advantage of reduced heating and cooling costs in the area.

  4. Versatility and customisation – Suspended ceiling tiles come in various materials, colours, and designs, allowing for a level of customisation which may suit the aesthetic requirements of different spaces. This versatility means that suspended ceilings are suitable for both residential and commercial settings.

  5. Accessibility for Maintenance – Suspended ceilings have tiles which are designed to be easily removed. This ensures there is quick access to the space above for maintenance or repairs to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems without disrupting the entire ceiling. The ceiling tiles can then be replaced when the work is complete. Being able to remove one title at a time is also helpful for repairs. If there is damage to an area of the ceiling, you will only have to replace the individual tile/s rather than the entire ceiling.

  6. Increased Fire Resistance – Some types of suspended ceiling materials offer fire-resistant properties. This adds an extra layer of safety to the building. Fire resistance can be crucial in commercial or public spaces; some of these building codes may require specific fire safety measures.

  7. Lighting Integration – another advantage of suspended ceilings is that they allow for easy integration of lighting fixtures. This can include recessed lights, LED panels, and other types of fixtures. The ease of lighting integration facilitates efficient and aesthetically pleasing lighting design.

  8. Improved Hygiene – Suspended ceiling tiles can be treated with special coatings to make the whole area more hygienic. This is particularly important for commercial food hygiene areas such as kitchens and is sometimes a legal requirement, depending on the nature of the ceiling in question.

  9. Moisture Resistance – Certain types of suspended ceiling tiles are designed to resist moisture, making them suitable for use in areas prone to high humidity, such as basements, bathrooms or kitchens.

  10. Cost-Effective – In many cases, suspended ceilings are more cost-effective than other ceiling options. The ease of installation and the ability to conceal infrastructure can save overall cost.

There are many suspended ceiling advantages. When exploring your options, choosing suitable materials and designs is important based on your specific space requirements and the desired functionality. If you need help selecting the best option for your application, contact our team today.

Types of Suspended Ceilings

As discussed above, there are several different types of suspended ceilings available. The types we offer at Tapper Interiors include;

Grid Suspended Ceilings – In this style of suspended ceiling system, panels are set within a visible grid, which can be coloured to either complement or contrast the ceiling panels.

The panels are crafted from diverse materials and come in various sizes. The most commonly used sizes are 1,200x600mm and 600x600mm, and the grid typically measures 24mm or 15mm.

Metal Pan Ceilings – Metal pan ceilings utilise exposed or concealed grids in various sizes. The metal tiles come in assorted dimensions depending on your requirements.

MF Plasterboard Ceilings – MF plasterboard ceilings serve as fundamental ceiling structures. They don’t offer the same acoustic properties as other ceiling options. However, there are optional ad-ons to improve this.

At Tapper Interiors, we have been fitting suspended ceilings for many years. We work across multiple industries in all areas of the UK to bring acoustic solutions to various types of buildings. You can see some of our projects here.
